Christmas Around the World & Etc.

Today we did potato printmaking.

We really enjoyed going to Box Elder County’s “Christmas Around the World.” I love the chance to talk with other homeschool moms and for my hubby to get to know other homeschool dads. I think it was tons of fun and good socializing with other homeschool kids.

We really enjoyed the Charter School program we wet to wherein the kids performed.

We really enjoyed my daughter’s dance performance.

We really enjoyed finishing the Harry Potter series yesterday morning.

We have learned a lot about Native American Tribes lately.

I like that I can do math with my kids and immediately know when they don’t understand, so I can immediately help them understand. I hated waiting until parent teacher conference to hear that, by the way, for this past quarter of the year, your child has had a hard time with math, so he’s been in the lowest math group.

I really would like to get together more with other home schooling families, and I love taking every opportunity to do so.

Yesterday, we cleaned the living room, dining room and kitchen well, together, so that we could put up the Christmas tree.

I am working on getting reimbursed for some of the school supplies I bought.

I have added 2 chapters to my novel, typed. I also have a hand-written one I have to add in. I have noticed I need to add backstory and subplot items to all of the chapters, little by little.

Tanja Clandestine character details

I started reading kindle book, “Write Good or Die,” inspiring me to work on my novel in Snowflake by doing one character description per day. Today I am working on character #2, Tanja Clandestine, second in importance only to the main character, Jibs.

Story goal. Beats me. So many of them. Have to narrow it down to one. She wants her mom and dad back. She wants revenge on the man responsible for their deaths. She wants him locked up. Um…she wants her baby brother to grow up. She doesn’t want someone to be so dependent on her. She wants a boyfriend, or someone she can count on daily, the way her mom had her dad. She knows she can’t have her mom and dad back, so that can’t be her goal. I think her main goal is to find the dude responsible for her parents’ deaths and get him locked up in prison. Or some version of prison. Whatever that is. How can kids lock up a guy like that. Oh, they can’t! Oh, my! I have just remembered. The guy responsible is dead! Poor Tanja! Now what is her goal going to be? I suppose a boyfriend. She needs a family. She can’t be a loner, day in and day out. She needs someone to count on. Poor doll! Don’t worry. I have a boyfriend for you, dear.

I got it. Story goal: To have a permanent, nuclear family again, and a husband she can count on to always be there for her. Sweet. That’s what she truly is aiming for throughout the book. Unfortunately, she is 11 years old. Too young to be wed. So, *sigh* Alas, the poor lovesick chick-a-dee will have to settle for a boyfriend for now. Which she’ll meet, lucky girl, at the beginning. I have to keep the tension, though, so I can’t make their being with each other very much, a possibility.

O.K. Here is a one-sentence (very long sentence) summary: Tanja seeks to be independent and to become a part of a family, yet those around her count on her to find solutions to their problems, until she has a dream about a gardener teaching people to grow food from the land, and makes it her mission to find such a gardener, to teach her to become such a gardener.

Homeschool Curriculum I Love

I love Constance Kamii math

and Whole Language style language arts. I am now reading (and loving) “Spelling in Use.”

Cover Re-Design Idea

I have a cover Redesign idea for the book I just read, “Ghost at Work,” by Carolyn Hart.

Designing a Day Planner for Busy Moms

I am designing a day planner for busy moms. I will soon be designing a logo for my own day planner company. When the planner is designed (probably late this year), I will register a new DBA (Doing Business As) with the Utah Dept. of Commerce at (in 2012). Then I will make a nice package in a nice box (my company colors) and mail it to some publishers. It will have a few details (not too many) about my planner design and will propose a meeting. It will have a web site listed, which I will have ready, for her eyes only. I will sell usage rights, but get royalties and maintain the copyright. How much are usage rights like that worth? How much royalty should I ask for?

I wrote 1  and a 1/2 pages out, by hand, for my novel. It is just set up. He’s in heaven, going to the law library. It’s in 1st person. My husband thinks it is evil for the writer to be the opposite sex when it is 1st person.

I contacted my client today and we discussed a bottle design, a package design, and business cards. I am awaiting further information from him.

Main Earth Character & Earth Conflicts Changed

This morning I thought of all the things I hate about the story plan (I’m an outline person) for my adult paranormal novel. I decided to eliminate them and do something different. There was a war on earth, and now there won’t be. It just didn’t make sense. The conflict on earth has to be made of spiritual, not physical, danger. I also did not like the secondary (main on earth) character. I decided to make a different child be the main earth character. She’s 8 instead of 17.  None of the changes have been written down. They are in my head. Well, I suppose they’ve been written here now.
