Homeschool Supplies Shopping July 2020

We use a whole lot of pens!

It’s back to homeschool supplies shopping time. Here is my 2020 haul!

Used binders from Deseret Industries. Our binders get beat up every year!
Watercolors, gluesticks and crayons are things we use up well for creativity, learning, and fun!
Jr. High and High School Homeschoolers need graph paper for graphing!
I bought these pink crates which are stackable so that I can store worksheets in them.
Expo Markers for the white boards are essential for instruction, fun, and Chore do-lists. We use these like crazy. Sharpie Markers are used for writing on poster boards and bags donated to charity–let’s be honest. The tacky stuff on the right is going to hang learning posters and papers I write checklists or goals on. I love penciltop erasers. I bought 24 of them. My husband helps by checking math and spelling with Dixon Ticonderoga red pencils. I always buy Washable Crayola markers. My daughter uses colored pencils lots.
Construction paper, colored printer paper, lined filler paper, 3×5″ notecards, and spiral notebooks are all things we use much of. I bought a large calendar for the wall this year.

I also recommend things I did not buy because I have them already: rubber bands, brads, safety pins, rulers, sketch pads, dixon ticonderoga 144 pack of pencils, composition books for writing, a computer, a printer, printer paper, ink for printer, scissors, gluesticks, calculators, paper clips, laminator, plastic sleeves for binders, pencil cases, compass, protractor…

August Stock-Up Sales! Yay!

We started Homeschool officially on Wednesday of last week. Today is Tuesday, so tomorrow will make a week that we have been at it. We have done L.I.F.E. School and Discover the Old Testament. We have not started math yet. We will ease in gradually and add more every couple of weeks. I have been buying books and supplies year round as needed, but last night we bought numerous homeschooling supplies on sale for really great prices. I am so happy! Yesterday we bought…

…at Costco:

  • 18 pack of Expo dry erase markers (for 2 whiteboards)
  • 250 pack of Avery sheet protectors (for spelling lists to learn, scriptures to memorize, articles of faith to memorize, poems to memorize, hymns to memorize, math challenges, my recipe books, and many other things to post and learn)
  • Scotch tape dispenser with 12 extra big rolls of tape (for taping the above sheets to walls)
  • 144 Dixon Ticonderoga pencils (because all other pencils are made so cheaply that they are constantly  having the leads break inside of the pencil, and these are high quality, made well and very durable).

    ..at ShopKo:

    • 14 70 ct. spiral notebooks (for note-taking, lists, math and stories to write and illustrate).
    • 1 pk. 8 pk. Crayola washable classic markers (I would have bought more but, sadly, that was all they had left. We use markers for coloring pictures in Discover the Old Testament, Discover the Book of Mormon and for posters, signs around the house, cardmaking and sundry miscellaneous purposes.)
    • 5 Crayola kids’ watercolor sets (we love watercoloring)!
    • 1 pack of 120 ct. Crayola crayons (More colors are better. We use these for pre-school, kindergarten and church.)
    • new underwear (They are on sale at this time. Why not!?! The kids were very excited about these!)

      …at Macey’s:

      • 6 packs of 150 ct. wide ruled filler paper

With the next budget, there will be shopping trips for clothing and shoes. Now is the time to get all of this on sale!

My Black Friday & Cyber Monday Plans for 2013

I see that many are not going to go out on Black Friday. You people know what you are missing (the crowds, the lines) but don’t know what you are missing (you can get 4 times the things you need, for the same budget). I use envelopes for everything. Our envelopes are ready. I have about 10 Christmas spending envelopes, all labeled with the amounts I am spending in that category. On Thursday, I will go over the ads and cut out stuff. I will tape what I have cut out, with store name written above it. I will go out on Friday after getting plenty of sleep, at about 10 a.m. So, a lot will be gone (but, crowds gone, too). There’s still a lot left, though, and you can still save a lot if you go! If you do not go until 10, you’ll save money, miss the crowds and have a great and happy day. I have found that the secondhand stores (“flea markets”) have great deals on Friday, and there’s lots of good stuff there, too! Don’t forget those on Friday! I can get lots of good clothes & books there, and at great sale prices, to boot! These stores are EMPTY on Black Friday, yet they have some of the best stuff (at least for our budget)!

I am NOT EVER going to go on Thanksgiving. I think it is a pernicious evil, to make people work on Thanksgiving.

I am also looking forward to Cyber Monday, and will make sure my Amazon wish list is ready by then. I have an amount budgeted for that day, too. Cyber Monday is great. There are no crowds to fight, although loading of pages IS SLOWER! You get it sent in the mail, which is great! There are great deals that day, like buy 3 books from this group, get one free.
